History of Food in the US
History of Food in the US Evolution of the food Cooking is a process which one can never discovered. Cooking and food are the things which were always being evolving with time. For the survival the most important requirement of a creature is food. If we move to prehistoric time cavemen created weapons for hunting to survive and as the fire was discovered the whole way of eating food changed. When colonization began and civilization have been set, hierarchy of classes of people started evolving on the basis of work done by them. Three categories were made like food for royal people, warrior people and Poverty-Stricken people to describe food. As the technology started evolving time by time in the area of agriculture people started developing new type of vegetables and fruits by the help of pesticides, hybrid technology and insecticides as compared to what they we use to eat in early times the food which use to grow naturally. But as people learn about the bad effect of pesticides and insecticides they started moving to organic food. Many decades back when women stay at home to take care of the family members, whereas the men use to work for earning money to fulfill the basic requirement of the family. Now a days when women are working with men in every field, so thatââ¬â¢s why they get less time to cook food at home by which ready to eat food came in market. This is how centuries have passed and food has been evolved. American cuisine History of the United States can be reflected by its cuisine. However the bread was developed way back in history, and yet it has become reputed in the world because of its deep sour flavor and its heavy texture. Also it is very hard to produce at any other place in the world. The microorganism used in the making of the bread can only survive in the circumstances prevailing in San Francisco bay area. The miners during the gold rush ate sourdough bread as one of their favorite starter and carried it around while they traveled state to state thereby spreading the delicious bread around in each place they went. Due to the popularity of the bread in San Francisco and its spreading method sour dough came to be a name for miners and the mascot of the todayââ¬â¢s football team San Francisco 49ers is known as sourdough bread. In 1849 the Boudin bakery began baking sourdough bread and it has been in production ever since it has crisp and chew crust and goes along perfectly with a lot of the perfect soup of San Francisco, like clam chowder and cioppino and is often found to be carved and shaped into a bowl by hollowing it out and it is used to serve soup in it. Crab Louie It is a salad which is made from crab meat, in San Francisco from the 1900ââ¬â¢s. Many story are being told about the origin of the dish, but it has been believed that it is a San Francisco dish. Seafood meat, tomatoes, lettuce could be romaine or iceberg, asparagus and hard boiled eggs are mixed and tossed with Louie dressing, which is made by adding mayonnaise and chili sauce seasoned with peppers. Now a dayââ¬â¢s Thousand Island dressing can also be used. Cioppino Cioppino is a fish medley stew soup, San Francisco creation. The soup was created by the Italian immigrants in the mid nineteenth century. When fishermen from coastal region of Italy came to San Francisco and started living over there as a fishermen. When the day ends, they use to gather all the leftover and chop them, put them in a pot and create a stew. The word cioppino came from the word ââ¬Å"to chopâ⬠, though some claims that it derived from cries of ââ¬Å"chip inâ⬠which was heard when they use to return to the dock, asking everyone to add the seafood in the pot. Whereas cioppino in San Francisco is usually made with a mixture of scallops, Dungeness Crab, shrimps, clams, squids, numerous white fish, and mussels which were stewed in a broth of red wine. Shellfish were kept in their shells while they were stewed, which in terms added flavor, to broth. Afterwards Sicilians immigrants developed the shrimps by putting tomatoes in the broth, the way it is served today. The Death of Antigone :: Essays on Antigone
In Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Antigone, Antigone saw her action of burying her brother as a just one. It may not have been just in the eyes of Creon and the people of Thebes, but she was not concerned with the laws that mortals had made. Antigone saw the divine laws of the gods to be much more important than those of mortals. She felt that if she died while upholding the laws of the gods, that her afterlife would be better than if she had not. Our lives on this earth are so short, that to see a good afterlife over the horizon will make people go against the laws of humans. Early in the play, Antigone felt dying for her brother was a noble action. Death to her was not an ending, but a new beginning in a better place. Antigoneââ¬â¢s family had been cursed for ages; death was something that followed at their heels. The people of Thebes would always look at her with suspicious eyes. Her father, Oedipus, had caused these looks to be placed on her family forever. Then her brothers killed one another on the same day; her life in Thebes was not good. With such a bad life in Thebes, an honorable death must have looked very appealing to Antigone. In most societies, as well as Thebes, the afterlife is taught to be much more important than your mortal life. The problem is that we do not know what is waiting on the other side for us. Antigone thought that if she were to please the gods in her life that she could only expect good things in the afterlife. The burial of Polyneices was her ticket to a good afterlife. The afterlife is eternal, and life is just a small spec, compared to the time spent in death. Antigone welcomed death at the time of burying her brother; she was not concerned with the consequences. She saw her actions as being true to the gods and religion. ââ¬Å"I myself will bury him. It will be good to die, so doing. I shall lie by his side, loving him as he loved me; I shall be a criminal but ââ¬â a religious one.â⬠(Antigone, lines 81-85) To Antigone, the honor of her brother, and her family was all that was important. She may be going against Creon, but if her actions were true in her heart then the gods would see her in a good light.

Ellie Enterprises â⬠Deloitte Audit Case Essay
Alternative Investments Among the five funds, three of the funds, Cloudy Retirement 500 Index, Cloudy High-Yield Hedge Strategies, and Cloudy Real Estate All starts, are alternative investments. Those three funds, as the case states, are not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940 or under the Securities Act of 1933. Thus, they are not offered to the investing public or are not been required to offer significant information to public. Moreover, the investment product held by Cloudy High-Yield Hedge Strategies is hedge fund. It is not traditional investment, such as stock or bonds, and is difficult to determine the current market value. Existence of the investments The confirmation did not provide sufficient competent audit evidences to support the existence of the investments; therefore, the engagement team must perform additional procedures. AU Session 332 states, ââ¬Å"Confirmation of the holdings on a security-by-security basis typically would constitute adequate audit evidence with respect to the existence assertion.â⬠The confirmation Union provided, which is on fund-by-fund basis, is not detail enough to typically be considered as adequate audit evidence. Moreover, the audited financial statement of the alternative investment, which could provide significant audit evidence, is not available before the issuance date of the auditorsââ¬â¢ report on Ellieââ¬â¢s consolidated financial statements. This fact further proves that the engagement team needs to conduct substantive procedures. To assess the existence of the investments, following procedures can be performed. First, the engagement team can request transactions involved in each five of funds during the fundsââ¬â¢ fiscal years. Actual transactions prove that Ellieââ¬â¢s investments have been held in those five different funds. Second, as the case states, the Committee periodically review plan performance and assets allocation. Therefore, the Committee must kept reports and memos regarding their plan performance or discussions with Union. The engagement team can collect documents related to Ellieââ¬â¢s investments in those five funds from Ellie and Union. Documents from the investor entity and trustee entity can prove the existence of investment activities. Moreover, by comparing those documents, the engagement team can test whether Unionââ¬â¢s investment behavior has aligned with the strategies orà any adjustments made to the Ellieââ¬â¢s investments. An example can further illustrate. For example, the Committee decided to change the investment allocation. It is expected to see Union held documents which contain details showing the change of the strategy, specific investment that Union made, and the performance after adjustments. Such documents are sufficient evidence to prove that Ellieââ¬â¢s investments are in the funds and being appropriately management by Union. Lastly but no lease, obtaining related information directly from a third party may also be helpful in this case. The engagement team can directly contact five fund managers and inquire them whether Ellieââ¬â¢s investments were held in the funds. Value of the investments Simply confirming investments in the aggregate neither prove the existence of the investments, nor support the valuation of the investments. Furthermore, there is a time lag in reporting between the date of the financial statements of the funds and the date of the auditorââ¬â¢s report on Ellieââ¬â¢s consolidated financial statements; thus, the engagement team should perform additional procedures. Cloudy Retirement intermediate-Term U.S. Treasury To check the accuracy of the amount of share held by Ellie, the engagement team could request the fund manager to provide documents stating the amount of shares held by Ellie. This fund is registered with the SEC under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and under the Securities Act of 1933. Normally quoted market prices for such funds are available from sources such as financial publications, the exchanges, or NASDAQ. The engagement team could obtain the quoted market prices of the fund and check the prices with those on the confirmation. Cloudy High-Yield Hedge Strategies Since this fund is not registered with SEC under the Investment Company Act of 1940 or under the Securities Act of 1933, the engagement team is unable to get quoted market prices and compare with numbers on the confirmation. However, the engagement team could request a more detailed confirmation providing information of the underlying investments. Next step the engagement team can take is to evaluate the underlying investment and the reasonableness of the assumptions used in fair value calculation. Sinceà evaluation may involve a lot of specialized knowledge and techniques, the engagement team could employ a specialist. Under the situation that the engagement team did not receive a detailed confirmation of the underlying investments, there are several procedures can help with the assessment. First, the engagement team can collect previously audited financial statement for the funds to compare information the team obtains for this year. If Ellie didnââ¬â¢t make a lot of change on its investments and the performance of funds held by Ellie are stable in recent years, but investment balance of this year is very different from ones of previous years, the engagement team need to increase the risk and take a closer look at the evaluation of Ellieââ¬â¢s investment of this year. Other than previously audited financial statement for the funds, meeting minutes, memos, or summaries that document valuation or judgments made during managing the investment are evidence that auditor should collect and review to help assessment. Second, the engagement team can call or visit the auditors of Union to ask their opinion about the valuation of the investments that Union managed. Besides, the engagement team also could pick some sample transactions and then test the fair value measuremen t involved in those transactions to see whether the fair value measurement are reasonable or comply with industry standard. Last but not least, the auditing team can directly contact the five fund managers to check out Ellieââ¬â¢s balance.

Find Cars and Trucks With Propane Power
Propane is a common alternative fuel for fleets, buses, delivery trucks and police cars in the United States. Also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propane powers over 10 million vehicles worldwide, with 270,000 of them on the roadways of America. Unfortunately, you canââ¬â¢t just go to the car dealer down the street and order a propane-powered car. However, there are certified installers that can convert a conventional car or truck to propane with a retrofit package. The U.S. Department of Energy maintains this up-to-date propane information regarding the availability of light, medium, and heavy-duty propane vehicles and conversions, in addition to this searchable database for propane makes and models back to 2001. Propane Vehicles Offer Cleaner Emissions Testing of modern propane-powered vehicles has proven they are far cleaner than conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, converted propane vehicles are significantly cleaner than gasoline since they offer potentially lower toxic, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and nonmethane hydrocarbon (NMHC) emissions. Propane Tax Incentives There are a variety of federal and state-wide incentives for vehicles that use LPG. This propane vehicle incentive database provides current information regarding the incentives and laws for propane-powered vehicles. Find a Propane Filling Station Near You There are over 1,200 propane filling stations in North America.
